Security at the Colorado State Capitol

C. Suzanne Mencer
Executive Director
Colorado Department of Public Safety
700 Kipling Street, #1000
Denver, CO 80215
Ms. Mencer:
I had the opportunity to read your Letter to the Editor of The Rocky Mountain News of May 6, 2002. Your comments encouraged me to write a follow up letter to the News that strongly supported your position. Of course, I also aimed a few of my comments at the members of the Colorado Legislature.
As you probably know, this is the legislature that declined to even take a vote on the licensing of Private Investigators, forcing many of the professionals in Colorado to go out of state for licensing; and, not incidentally, leaving the field wide open in Colorado for the usual array of incompetents and charletans.
Anyway, after my experience with licensing, it was no surprise to realize that the members of the legislature might want to minimize, perhaps eleiminate, extra security measures enabled after September 11th.
Enclosed is a copy of the letter.
Sincerely,
Peter Bulla
